Just won an auction for a 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber with a 302. Not original engine, but I am not into all that "numbers matching bit".

I hate buying sight unseen, but did that with the GTO and it worked out great. I will post pics when it is delivered.

I never owned a Ford in my 38 years, and within a month, I bought 2...go figure. :p Actually, it is for my older brother...he misses his high school ride, so I bought him one...no X-mas or b-days for him for many years to come!

While fixing it up, I may ask for help.

Good luck with it !!!

I had a 1977 Maverick 250 CI I6. Ran like a top. Was taken off the road at over 230,000 miles on the original engine and tranny. It was junked in 1993. 16 years of faithful service.

You know how those old American junk cars were. They would not last long at all.

Friend of mine had a Mercury Comet with the V-8 back when I was in high school. I used to work on it for him. It was pretty easy to work on, except changing spark plugs kind of sucked. Brakes were a breeze.

He put over 150k miles on his too. Ran and Ran. Front suspension and steering linkage got pretty sloppy, but he didn't care.

He had some radial snow tires on it during winter, and always had the trunk full of crap. The old Comet went darn good in the snow.

My dad had two Mavericks when I was growing up, both 6 cyl. stick shift cars. He's always talking about how simple they were to maintain, and how he wishes he had another one.

The first one was totaled by a red-light runner, and the second got sold to a family member.

The 302 maverick had a sloppy suspension. They could be set up to be a pretty fast drag or street car, though. Kind of a sleeper. No one expected to be beat by one..

WOW i have not seen one of those cars in YEARS

nice of you to do that for your brother and i look forward

to the photos.

Rich, I will get the car in a few weeks and post some pics. :)

Gavin, I did it because I wanted to give my brother something to be able to drive and fix up too...and take to car shows in the meanwhile, along with the car show I put on for the Veterans at the VA hospital.

blksn8k, nahhh...just a price I could not pass up...even tho it is a Maverick. Even if they are low end pony cars...I think it has some nice lines to it...flows nicely.

dreman...my brother had a white and red one...both 6's. This time he gets his Black V8 Grabber.

I couldn't get any of the images I found to post, but IMO, the second-baddest Pro Stocker of all time was Dyno Don Nicholson's 427 SOHC Maverick. Don passed on recently but the car still exists.

Link below.

Baddest of all time was the Sox & Martin Hemi 'Cuda. .02.
