RichardL,

Your excuses and complaints are just your own guilt trip.

You are right. I wish I could have been to the meet in 2004 and 2005. Unfortunatly I was not able to make it.

It makes me mad that so many members here were not able to go to the Dallas meet because so many others liked the idea of it being in a more centrally located place. Those same people that wanted it in Texas did not go, nor did they even want to go.

Nelson,

You know the Horse Judge Bush apointed as the head of FEMA. "Brownie, you're doing one heck of a job"

Tom

Ok, I would have given a body part to be at that meet!!! My wife and my unborn son are MUCH more important than any get together, PERIOD. I still feel bad that, as a site sponsor, I couldnt attend, but such is life.

Wayne,

I also did not see you say you were going to be there if it were to be in Texas either.

Tom

Sounds like a great time was had by those that attended, and I enjoyed the pictures and writeups from those who went. My excuse...no vacation...too much side work, and too far to drive from PA.

Wfoy,

I checked the original post. I could not find your input at all about the location.

Tom

There are as many excuses as there are people who did not attend. I'm sure they are all valid and justifiable reasons and none of us should judge anyone's reason for not attending. A simple, "Sorry I could not attend" is sufficient, or even better, simply say nothing at all.

I guess I don't understand why people feel compeled to make an excuse for not attending. For folks like LaRue, Howard, David, Dove and Chris, etc, we all know that you would have been there if you could have made it. We missed you all, but you do not owe us any explainations.

For those who never attend meets and just want to give us another excuse for not attending, it's just not necessary. Nobody is really expecting you to show up, so nobody is suprised when you don't show up, and nobody misses you not being there. So why bother giving an excuse for not being there, it only draws attention to yourself as someone who only has excuses.

As I said, the problem was not the attendance as a whole. It is the as usual "me too" people. Either is it a group buy for something. Lets get a group buy going for a sway bar. 50 people say they are interested. When it comes time to place an order, they have 10 people show with the money to actually buy. The same goes for the meet. It could have happened in Louisville, but members that usually do to the meet figured to let those guys on the left coast go. The members that stood back and let it happen in Texas got screwed out of the trip.

I will use Phill R as a small example. I remember at the 2003 meet, his kids wanted to go to Louisville. They had such a great time they wanted to go the following year. I think that is very cool.

I am glad some members that were not at any of the other meets were able to make it. For that I am glad. Unfortunatly, there were 20 members, I would almost bet would have made it to Louisville, but missed out because it was moved to Texas.

I am done with this subject. Hopefully there will be a next years meet.

Once again, this has gone in a completely different direction.

First, we are not talking about the people who could not make the meet. Either you can or you can't. That is not a big deal. It is the complaining that happens that is very selfish and irritating to those who put in the effort to have a good meet. It makes it that you don't even want to go through the effort just to get piled on at the end.

Second, I want to clear up the issue of moving to Dallas. We could NOT HAVE THE MEET IN LOUISVILLE. FORD did not make the Sport Trac in a 2006 Model. This was not clearly explained. If we wanted to go to Louisville and watch them put together Explorers, I guess we could have done that.

My whole point is to find out if there is enough interest in having a Meet next year. If so, then we can get several members together and get it accomplished.

Paul,

You can count me in for next year, regardless of where it happens to be.

As for the complainers, I agree that perhaps more people would have made it to the meet if it was back in Louisville, KY instead of Dallas, TX. It was too far to drive for some people and would have been economically impractical. If you could not attend, then so be it, just don't complain about it and don't give all the BS excuses why you did not attend.

To say the people did not attend Dallas was because they wanted to give people on the west coast a chance to attend is nuts. Neither the east coast or west coast was given any more preference to attend. Ford wanted to change it to The end of September in Dallas. People screamed for a more central location and they still did not attend. I had even suggeestied a few years ago that the location be changed every year so it would be easier for everyone to make it to one of the national meets. I was informed then that it would always be in Louisville, KY since that is where the Sport Trac's are made, and we get a lot of support from Ford in Louisville.

Personally, I don't care where it's at. I will attend if I can, and won't if I can't. I appreciate Fords efforts in the past, but I feel we should set our own agendas for these national meets even if Ford would prefer a different time or location, we should be big enough to just say "No". It's a Sport Trac meet organized by www.mysporttrac.com. we have had regioal meets that had 20 Sport Trac's attend without any support from Ford. Byan may have jumped in at the last minute to help pull off the Dallas meet, but I will say that if anyone was to blame, it was Ford.

I was also a bit uneasy about hearing that Ford was disappointed at the turn-out. An that the lack of Sport Trac owners attending the meet may force them to give us less support in the future. That may be the best thing to happen yet.

Paul, Howard and I have attended a whole bunch (and Taylor, too) of meets. Taylor has been to 5 meets in Atlanta alone. My point being: you guys have not reassured these fellas and gals who have not been to a meet. We are a family! Have been a family. There are always places for the whole family to enjoy at the National meets. This needs to be emphasized. Not all of us at this site are car nuts. I really could care less about the mods, etc. The PEOPLE are what makes this site and the meets fun. That is the reason it was so very hard to miss Dallas.

We had the final decision where the meet was going to be. Ford only wanted to change it to Dallas because of the Louisville plant shut down for the re-tooling of the Explorer line and the release of the 2007 Trac.

I say heck with the meet centrally located. It is pretty clear that members that live close to the meet really don't care to go.

Call me a jerk, I really don't care.

Tom

Jeanie,

You make some very valid points, however I don't think it was a lack of "Family" events that caused the poor turn out at Dallas. People were given free tickets to the State Fair which is pretty family oriented. After all, how many kids would not want to go to a fair?

It's true, there wasn't much for kids to do on Saturday, but there was only one school age kid there and it was Ron Brezena's daughter and I believe she's in her early teens now. The other kids were a few babies.

For other Family members there was the shops at the Stockyard complex, a mechanical bull, longhorn cattle, and other western/cowboy stuff.

I really think the timing being during the school year was the biggest cause for the poor turn out. That coupled with the hurricanes and high gas prices just added to problem. I don't think that the Dallas location was necessarily a bad location. I don't know if Louisville, KY in September/October would have done much better under the same circumstances.

...Rich

Rich,

You are absolutely right about the timing. I was just conerned that the folks, like me, that don't care if the truck is lowered or whatever, would not understand that this group is not a clique or hard nosed car buffs. jeanie
