Crazy cool. I have always loved the blackbird, one of the few planes I like better than helicoptors! I would be afraid to run out of fuel and crash something that nice! Wonder what those powerplants are?

I got to touch one of those SR-71's one time, the pitot tube was sticking out of the hangar. It was over Hawaii with engine trouble and landed at Dobbins AFB in Atlanta. That's one long divert!

I used to be a security forces augmentee in Okinawa, and had to gaurd one of these SR-71's on 2 different occassions. We had 3 of them at Kadena AB... awesome does not describe them. When they took of or landed, the base went into lockdown mode for about 30 minutes.

LaRue,,In 'Nam I had security clearance for our black birds, MACV-SOG. Our 130's and 123's were black. Including Puff the 130 gun ship.



One day after a mission I was coming off of one our 130's @ thon-son-nuht air base. There was a SR-71 on the tarmac, close by. I started walking toward it. I got stoped buy secuity. I showed him my badge, he laughed and said, not this black bird.....LOL
