I've been looking for a better way to tie my Ipod into my 2004 Ranger but with little success. I haven't cared for previous FM wireless units and am considering this.

buzz,

I'm using this one w/my 2004 STA. I was previously using a wireless FM modulator. This is a big improvement over the wireless. It's not perfect, but the best you can do in an OEM radio that doesn't have Aux inputs or iPod control.

I went through 3 different brands of wireless units and was still unhappy with the sound and usability.

I bit the bullet and replaced the OEM head unit with an aftermarket product.

I chose the Sony Explode unit with an AUX jack and USB port on the front. It also has an iPod connection on the back. At time time of installation, the iPod interface is plugged into the back of the unit and then threaded wherever you want it to come out.

I borrowed a Nano to see if it works and it does. I don't own iPods anymore, but if I ever go back to them, I'll be all set.

Personally, I like to load up a flash drive with a few hundred songs and plug it into the USB port. I can't really choose the music like I do on my MP3 players, but I'm not too picky about what music plays, just as long as it's music that I chose.

And I was amazed at how much better the speakers sounded with a good head unit supplying good clean power and low distortion levels. The OEM was just not that great in those two areas, IMO.

Those work if your OEM head unit has the capability to control a CD changer. buzzworth didn't indicate whether or not his Ranger head unit had CD changer capability, but I assumed it didn't since he was looking at the FM modulator.

If you have an OEM had unit without CD changer control capability or Aux/Satellite radio input, then your only options are:

1. Wireless FM Modulator

2. In-line FM Modulator

3. Replace the OEM head unit with an aftermarket unit

Unfortunately, that's where I'm at with my 2004 Pioneer Adrenalin head unit. I've tried Option One, and am now using Option Two. It's working pretty well, but I may eventually replace the head unit with something like a Pioneer Avic-D3 in order to gain real iPod control and navigation. But that's much later down the road, after I'm done with other, "higher priority" ;) mods.

Or, I may just end up buying one of those new "Second Generation" Sync-equipped head units that Ford sells for ~$35,000. I hear that if you buy one of those, they throw in a new Sport Trac Adrenalin for free!

thanks, guys. I'm right where you are TT. I hate to replace the whole head though, everything else fits my needs.

It's a Ranger with the same Pioneer system/change in the dash as is fine for cd and radio. Having the factory sub built into the dash works better than most factory units.

JML......no AUX in this unit either.

guess i'll put the wired FM unit on Santa's list and go from there.

p.s....maybe I should just get a new truck
