Canada is more suited to the winter olympics because of the northern climate. Most of the cold weather countries excel in winter sports (no real surprise). Canada typically does well in track and field during the summer games.
I think the US has too many other sports that dilute our atheletes. That is why we are not crazed about hockey (best sport ever, love to watch and still play in the old man's league). We also do not really have large interest in some of the more obscure sports like curling, biathalon, cross country skiing, bobsled, skeleton, luge....
I am surprised we did ok in curling though. We must have a pocket or two in Minnesota that takes curling very seriously.
You wont see Austria, Norway, Sweden or Finland winning many summer olymic medals in 2008.
I know Canada is just as disappointed about men's hockey as I am over the US debacle. But I am not surprised in the least. Throwing together a "team" with no time to practice in a short tournament is not a way to win.
NHL back next week.....
