All Over the East Coast,
Rec'd my DNX5120 this morning. Looks nice, but upon removing it from the box, I realized that the Navigation button is loose (it makes a horrible plastic-on-plastic squeak when pushed). In addition, the screen has a scratch or some type of scuff center bottom.

When I ordered it, the seller/shop (withheld assuming a positive resolution) commented that they pulled it to check it out because it was the first time they had the new unit in their shop. I told them that was fine. However, it also looks like they powered it up based on the fingerprints on the screen (and I assume they removed the screen's protective plastic). I can only assume the scratch/scuff occurred during their use or repackaging.

Wonderful.

There's a reason I usually order from Crutchfield. Sorry for the vent, but I am preparing to go to war with their restocking fee. I'd love to return it "unopened" and "original condition," but that's not how I got it. When I called, the fellow told me that he'd check the other unit at the shop and let me know if it has the same issue. I can only assume the answer will be "yes," as I don't see any incentive to answer otherwise.

Argh!

That stinks, But why would they remove the film and stuff, unless the touch screen did not work with it...

The other thing is how do you now know it is not some used display unit ???

That stinks, Hope you get it resolved..

Todd,

I don't. When they originally said they opened it, I assumed they pulled it from the box, gave it the once-over, and replaced it. I really should have rejected it there, but I guess I assumed that they didn't actually "use" it.

I'm calling back shortly. I ordered via phone based on a Google search of their location, and only now (i.e., after searching their outfit) discovered on their web site they use a 25% restocking fee. As I mentioned, I'm prepared to go to war over this.

There shouldn't be a restocking fee if the unit being returned has an obvious defect. If it is scratched/scuffed then it is defective. Restocking fees should only be for buyer remorse or a mistake on your end ordering the wrong item and such. One thing to consider if the problems are not too serious see if you can get a discount or credit and keep the unit.

Ditto on what Me said, If they are an honest bussines. Your best ammo is they said they opened it. If they dont own up to that, then you will know they are not honest. Report them to the BBB in their area, if they dont treat you right.

Whew. They're sending me a complete "new" package. I'm going to replace the new items into my "old" box with my "old" radio and ship them back with the "new" harnesses, etc.

They actually were a lot more accommodating than I expected. Essentially, I did the install (soldered the integration harness to the unit harness, ran the GPS antenna wires, etc.) with my items minus the head unit (though I did use it to test the harness/connections). I explained to them I have to hit the road again on Sunday, and likely could not install after that. So, they worked with me. When I tested it--simply awesome. I would have liked to go with a full touchscreen, but the ability to change the button colors, etc. is an absolute necessity for me.

The only thing I need to do is send the "old" unit back ASAP--or else I get another full unit price charge. That's one heck of a way to make me be quick!

Edit: Good God, man. My dash threw up!
