I'm on a original motorcraft battery in 99 F150. Should I consider replacing it very soon. I think were pulling almost 12, but any acessory is slow to work ie power windows, wipers, etc.

Replace it with a good battery made by Johnson controls... Stay away from exide..

You certainly got your money's worth out of that battery !! I agree that it's prably time to retire it and put in a quality replacment. I also agree with Todd that Exide should not be the replacment. I only had on Exide battery called the "Tuff One" and it went belly up in 10 months.

The only good part was that it had a 100% replacement guarantee if would not hold a charge within the first year. They replaced it free, with a good Delco which lasted for a good 5 years. They said they had been haveing a lot of warranty issues with the Exide batteries and did not sell them anymore, but they were honoring the warranty.

Better to replace it now and not wait till it decides to die and leave you stranded somewhere very inconvenient to you.

If the Motorcraft lasted 7 years...buy another!

My ST is still on it's original Motorcraft after 5 1/2 years; including some abuse when I was working on my stereo updates, way back when. The battery got completely drained on several ocassions.

They are very good batteries.

Autocraft Titanium batteries from Advance have a 36 month free replacement, 84 month prorated warranty, and they'll install it for free :D

I believe the Motorcraft battery is made my JCI.....

I think there are only 5 or so battery manufacturers that make all the batteries in the us..

I'm replacing a 5 yo battery tommorow, I just don't have the nerve to push that item & get stranded 30+ miles away at work. 7 years is amazing!!

I just lost mine last weekend which was the original on my '01. Fortunately I was at a gas station and an auto parts store was within sight. No signs of going dead, it just died.

I ended up replacing it with a Motorcraft. The battery was on sale for 61.87 100 month warrenty. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. Motorcraft got me this far so I decided on another.

My Trac just recently turned five and still has the original battery in it also. I'm amazed it's lasted this long, especially in our hot climate. Keep putting off buying one but I know I should. They never fail at a good time, like when your parked outside of a place that sells batteries. The top 4 listed by CR recently:

NAPA

Duralast

Everstart Maxx

Ac Delco Professional

And this good advice from their website:

Choose the right battery for your climate. Chilling cold isn’t the hardest environment for batteries; hot temperatures actually cause more damage. While starting in frigid climates can be tough on a battery, heat saps more life over time. And the extra drain from air conditioning and increased under-hood temperatures in hot weather is especially taxing. Many batteries are specifically designed for Northern and Southern climates and are sold only in those regions.

I'm with you scootch. After 5 years, I replace the battery. That's my preference for batteries. Works for me. My brother did get 7 years out of the original AC/Delco battery in his truck...I'm not real sure where it died on him though. My luck, it would happen out in the middle of nowhere.
