Are the rear bearings pressed into the housing or how are they mounted?

they are pressed into the housing ,you will need to get a puller or have someone replace them that does have a puller. its a semi floating type axle

What type of puller is required?

im not sure of the part number but just about any automotive place should have one , its going to be a slide hammer with the puller on the end of it , and to install you can used a socket the same diameter of the bearing or used the tool from the automotive store , todd z might have a part number for you for the puller

Believe it or not a body shop dent puller will have the tooth adapter you need to get it out...



I have had luck with home made tools for that, but it is easier to borrow or rent the tool...



I liked the style where the brg was pressed to the axle.....
