Bed Extender- is it worth it?

Hey guys/ gals,



I got offered a bed extender today, looks like in excellent condition, for 125 dollars. It does have the pins needed for the bed.



Is it worth it to have one? Will you benefit from having it? My ST hav the tonneau cover, just an FYI.

I'd like to hear opinions too. I am so temped to get one, but it seems like it would get in the way when I needed to haul a long table, boards or any other long items. I'd hate to have to either take it off or delay picking something up just because of it.

I like having mine, it has come in handy at times. You do have to remember to remove it depending on what you will be hauling. If you don't currently have one and you have had your truck for a while and you can't think of any times it would have been useful then you probably don't really need it.

I think you have this confused with the thing that mounts in the trailer hitch to make the floor of the bed "longer" I believe he is asking about the cargo cage.



I would not be without mine. Even when I am not using it, I can load groceries in the back of the ST and the cage keep all the stuff from flying up into the front of the bed. If you need to haul something and forget to take it out, it still fits i back seat if you need it to.

If he means the cargo cage, I agree with A1cntrler. I keeps things from sliding to the front of the bed and comes in real handy when hauling longer items like a snow blower or large lawn mower, etc. Had them on all my Rangers and have one on the Trac.

I use mine all the time. OTOH, I often take it out to haul other stuff like grass clippings.

I have never had one because I used to have an old ford long bed pickup. But with my Trac I use it a lot. And when its folded in the bed it does make a good spot to keep things from sliding around. I think its worth it to have, it has come in handy more than a few times. Especially since I was used to having a bigger bed and would forget this one is quite a bit smaller.

I love mine. Let's me fill up the back to go to the dump without having to take the cover off. 125.00 is a fair price in my opinion.

I only used it for MTN biking. Otherwise, it was always off the truck.

I have the OEM bed extender and it's come in handy many times. I have an aftermarket tonneau and the extender works fine with it. In the stowed position it serves as a partition (handy for groceries) and when extended, I could throw 6' X-mas trees back there. If I have to, I can remove the extender (easily at that) and throw it in the back seat (fits perfectly).

Although I don't use mine often, I wouldn't want to be without the bed extender when I do need it.

Since I have 2 ST's I thought about selling 1 of the extenders, But I changed my mind...

I said it in another thread, but I have to say that IF you have the hard, folding, OEM tonneau cover then you NEED the bed extender. A majority of the hauling I did of any "large items" seemed to always be with the tailgate down, extender extended, and back 1/2 of the cover folded over. That's the ultimate hauling combo, IMHO.

I carry a plastic toolbox in the bed that weighs about 60 lbs when full. The extender acts as a perfect divider and keeps the toolbox from sliding all over the bed and near the tailgate when I need to get any tools from it. The only thing I still want to add to the bed is a rubber mat and then maybe I won't need to keep an old blanket under the toolbox anymore.
