The pins on either side need to be pullued out halfway, then there's a clip on each side that need pushed in as you pull up on the extender to remove it from the pivot pins.
Just one additional tip if the clips won't move. There are screws (phillips head) on each side that need to be turned all the way until they click (clockwise if I remember correctly). When you re-attach the bed extender, turn the srews back in. They act as an anti-theft device.
