My dad is kinda like that old man but his story is a little different. Before he went to Vietnam he had 3 Mustangs (1965 350GT and also a 67 and 68 Fastback) but when he came home he was told that 2 of them didn't make it while he was gone serving in the war. The 1965 accidentally went through the kitchen when my uncle Steve (his little brother) tried to drive it. The 1968 my mother (his girlfriend at the time) and my other uncle Cleo (I know weird name) drove it too the local track and blew the motor to holy hell and slammed into the wall. Needless to say he was almost willing to go back to Vietnam cause those cars meant everything to him and he felt like he lost everything. He still had the 67 for along while than sold it when I was born for some crappy ass Bronco. Too this day I'm amazed he still HAS 2 brothers. On another note my grandfather has had the same 1969 Ford F150 since he drove it off the lot its amazing looking. Same paint job, same rims, same everything (even 8-track ha) He keeps it in the garage when he isnt driving it and hardly drives it now since he is getting pretty old.

I believe it did run on TV, during an episode of American Dreams. One of the characters, Jack I believe, signed up for the military and the commercial ran during that episode.

I personally like this film, but I am sure there are some who don't. Some could say that this film exploits the war and the sentiments that the American people feel towards our military. It could also be compared to the use of the American flag in advertisements (which the US Flag Code prohibits). I don't feel this way, but Ford comes very close to the line of exploitation of a very serious war and a lot of dead Americans.

I loved it. It shows the gratitude the vast majority of us have for our military that work so hard and give so much to keep this a free country!

Thank You

I don't think it's exploiting anything. First of all, it was made by a private company, not the government. So it would be a stretch to say that it is was made as pro-war, exploitative propaganda. Also, I've watched this several times now, and at no point does it mention that this Marine is returning from the war in Iraq. He could be coming home from boot camp, his permanent duty station, or some other deployment.

Yes....I thought it was a very special commercial. When it first aired, I think it was on after American Dream and was at the end of the show. It was the only commercial in the whole show! I was moved by it!

It did run during an episode of American Dreams when the son returns wounded from Vietnam to find that his dad has bought him a 1965(?) Mustang.

That's cool, Marc! I remember him from his brief role as "the Colonel" on HBO's Oz. He met a rather nasty end on that show, getting crushed by an elevator.

he's done a lot of shows, usually just a handful here and there. Not sure who watches Greays Anatomy but he directed the episode that is airing tonight.
