Hello, this morning I woke up to find my ebay account high-jacked. Keep an eye out for weird messages and links being sent to you. If you think something may be wrong, change your PW immediately! Good luck, I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

That happened to me about 5 years ago. Ebay caught it and corrected everything. A word of advice with sites like Ebay is to frequently change your password and never click a link in an email they (Ebay) supposedly sends you...always go directly to www.ebay.com and floow through that way.

Also, you can hover your mouse icon over the link in an email to see what the real directed address of the link. A lot of times, the wording on the link will not match the true link details.

Wow, they definitely were ambitious - most just try to slip small things under the radar or sell non-existant items with your account. The best advice, already previously stated, is to avoid the phishing scams. I get tons of them and usually delete anything that wants me to link to Ebay/Paypal. Their excuse is usually to "update expired credit cards" or the like.

It always sucks when it happens, though. Wasn't that long ago when someone stole my myspace password (haven't figured out how) and tried to delete my myspace page. Luckily, you need an email confirmation, otherwise I would have been starting over.

It all started out with my VW I am trying to sell on autotrader and ebay. Someone sent me a message asking about it with a bunk link and I bit. I will NEVER do that again!

I had a similar experience a month or two ago, where a weak password was hacked. In real time, I realized the guy was listing garbage to scam folks, cancelled auctions, called eBay, and all the rest. I think there's a post here--somewhere.

Best of luck with it. The process is so dang annoying and time-consuming.

Yeah I do know that NOW. Just to let you know though, it had come through "My Ebay". I had JUST listed my VW and a couple hours later I got a question, through my account asking about it with the link. I am stupid, so very stupid YES.

You're not stupid Bootsy. You got scamed. It can happen to anyone. These people are getting better at it every day. I change my PW every year, but I don't use E-Bay all to much. I never access anything through my e-mails or even the ones recieved on my E-Bay account. Hope everything works out for you.;)

Yesterday, I received one of those emails and the idiot scammer used his real email address on the CC line. I forwarded to eBay and also replied back to the email with a nice little message. I change my password all the time.

I always give the scammers something good to read - I type in just about the nastiest stuff you could imagine into their bogus online form.

You figure they get all excited because somebody 'bit' on their scam and then they are told they are &^*(^&! @$$&)&#$

It makes me feel better.

Already happened to my Ebay account. I didn't get any of the "spoof" emails either. I logged into my email and read about the crap that was going on with my account in 20 minutes. Now, Ebay won't let me buy or sell anything unless they call me first.

Just remember to NEVER click a link in an e-mail if it's supposedly from eBay, PayPal, your credit card company, your bank, etc.

You open yourself up to a lot of trouble. Always go to their site manually and log in.

If it's a legit e-mail, there will be a record of the same message on the website. 99.9% of the time, they are not.

Now excuse me, I must go reply to an e-mail and get my $12 million from a guy in Kenya that I need to split the money with....

What happened was they did a "ask me a question" about my R32 on ebay.

It said something along the line of they like my car but they thought they had seen it elsewhere by another member with my pictures. From there they had sent me the f'n link to the supposed car using my pictures. That is where I messed up! I let my guard down for 1 second and that's what happened. SO, if someone is asking a question about any items you may have for sale MAKE SURE it is legit!

The person went under the name Robert Wall & now this morning a Morty Sadley.

I will be very upset if they won't let me use that account anymore. I've had it for near 5 yrs I think and I also bought a 2002 Trans Am through ebay with cash. There will be problems if it gets shut down or something.

Bootsy, I do feel for you. I do some business on Ebay and was almost the victim of a scam, but someone outbid me. About a few hours later, ebay sent me an email about it being a scam.

A few years ago I had someone hijack my eBay account. They started sending messages through my account to people who had bid on expensive items but didn't win the auctions. They claimed they had a similar item for a little less money. They apparently didn't realize that they were sending a copy of their messages to my e-mail address. I sent messages warning all the people they were trying to scam and then changed my eBay password and had my cc company issue a new card just for a little peace of mind.
