Well, I know not to many on here care about football, but my beloved Steelers are going to lose thier coach of 15 years. Not bad for this day-n-age. Two coaches in 38 years for one team. Not that I'm surprised by the anouncement. Just don't like the feelings of having to watch someone else out there on the sidelines, when I've got comfortable seeing the same face out there coaching. Oh, well. It has to happen sometime and the team is pretty much intact for next season. Shouldn't be to hard to take over with that group of guys playing for ya.;)

i'm surprised he waited until this year. i really thought he was gonna go out on a high note last year after the superbowl win.

btw------GO SAINTS!!!!!!

Usually its free-agency that kills the Steelers, this time its retirement. DAMN!! I'm with you miser, I'd rather see a familiar face on the Steeler sideline than someone I don't feel comfortable with yet.

Compared to the year before, they had a pretty bad year. I figured he would either capitalize on his Super Bowl win and accept another head coaching job or walk then.

As it is, he is leaving on a low note.

That is not to take away from his accomplishments, but human nature is a simple fact that every always remembers the bad things....

Coastie, I agree compared to the previous year, this year was a let down. But if you think about it, they just missed the playoffs. If they had won against the Ravens the week before, and everything played out just like it did that final week, the Steelers would have pulled out another record comeback to get into the playoffs. The Chiefs are in and the Steelers beat them 45-7 earlier in the season and thier records would have been tied, thus Pitt. would be in and the Chiefs would have been out. I was just happy to see them ruin the Bungles season once again.:D;)

P.S.- wouldn't mind seeing Payton Manning get a ring, but it's going to be tough. Just as long as Balt. doesn't go. I hate McNabb.

All that said it boils down to this (IMO). Bill Cowher, a.k.a. FGB (Field Goal Bill), a.k.a. Marty Jr., coached decent and consistent teams for most of his tenure. They tended to start off slow and Bill tended to be a good motivator and X's and O's coach but not so hot on game day. While Steeler Nation thinks that the playoffs are a birthright, fact is they should have won at least two more Super Bowls over the last 15 years. Steelers have a great home record except in the playoffs where Cowher's teams lost 4 AFC Championship games at home. As former Steeler coach Chuck Noll used to say, it's time to get on with his life's work. At that level, if you're thinking about retiring then it's time to retire.

If anything I thought that the mediocre season this year would lead to him coming back. At the same time, the Seahawks and Bengals were supposed to be tough this year and also finished mid-pack.

I love the chin, man I love the chin! hope they find a good replacement

Ex redskin, my wife will like that

hey, maybe Jay Leno is available.:p

I am a HUGE Steelers fan as well. It's going to be tuff to like another coach after Cower. The man was the definition of the Pittsburgh Steelers and smash-mouth football.

The Steelers should have fired him last year after not only condoning what his player did to Carson Palmer, but gave him the game ball for it !! At least they got rid of the player ...

I am a Cowboys fan and Parcells will probably retire is either the boys win the super bowl or they lose in the first round.... I think the only way he is staying to if we make it to the NFC championship or the bowl then lose....

...or if T.O. leaves he may stay a few years.

I grew up in western PA. Now I live in Browns country. Once a Steeler fan always a Steeler fan, especially when in Brownieville. [Broken External Image]:

I like him even though I was born and raised in the Cleveland, OH area, I always liked Bill, he is a great coach, and as long as he wasn't playing the Browns, I wanted to see the Steelers win. I hope he didn't retire because of this past season??

...Rich

Rich, no. He did a honorable thing. He resigned to take time off from coaching to be with his family. No shame in that.

blksn8k, you go man!!!!!! We have a few around here the other way. They hang out HUGE signs that say "Go Browns" on it and leave it up all year. In one town I go through to get to work, there is a Browns fan on one side of the street, and on the other is a huge Steeler fan. It's fun to see what they put up to counter the other when they play each other. It's just like the Bud Light comercial. Funny stuff. Keep up the good work!:D;)

As a Cowboy fan since the mid-70s (Roger the Dodger!!) it is tough to say I have any 'love' for Pittsburgh but we do have the last SB victory for bragging rights. With that said, I am one that likes consistency so I like long term coaching and it is sad to see 'The Chin' leave. For what Pittsburgh was willing to pay for over the years he did a very good job. I wish the Cowboys could find a high quality coach that would stick around for 15 years. Some of the choices since the Landry debacle have been embarrassing.

Unless the Cowboys somehow put it together and win the SB expect Parcells to stick around and TO to be gone especially if Romo shows the promise like mid-year. I think he sees he is a few players away from competing with the next level and may be able to get a ring. Romo re-energized Parcells earlier in the year. All sports talk shows do state that it will be one or the other (Bill or TO) in Dallas next year, not both. Hopefully JJ realizes that Bill means more than TO at this point in his career (dropping passes, not doing anything after the catch - if he makes it).

Just as long as Balt. doesn't go. I hate McNabb.

Stonemeiser....McNabb is in Philly, did you mean former Titans QB McNair? It's odd, I have never heard anyone have anything against him because he is pretty much a stand up guy and always plays, even when hurt.
