Light output should be minimally affected. It's hard to tell, but the reflector isn't black, it may be 'black chrome', but it's not the dull black like the rest, but it looks to be just regular 'chrome'. I've been doing this mod to Rangers for years...painting the non-essential chrome black, or any other color. About the only thing you shoudl notice with the light is reduced stray light...light that isn't part of the main beam pattern...with the normally chrome area leading up to the faceted refractor/reflector being black, it won't reflect light.



The corners will be noticably (however you spell that) dimmer, however, without a proper reflector to maximize the light from the bulb. It shouldn't be enough to be unsafe, just a reduced apparent size and brightness.



BTW, they look really good....I"ve long been a fan of this style of headlights.



If you want to maximize the blacked out look, you could take the headlights apart and paint the glare reducer, the metal part directly in front of the bulb, with some high heat black. It'll further darken the remaining chrome with no light on, and provide some contrast with the lights on.
