Bragging just a bit.. My 12 year old daughter tried her hand at painting. I am impressed....

She has always been a good doodler. She decided to try to paint. The first picture is a snap shot of our cat Oliver, (who is a total rock by the way). The picture is one I just took of him, not the one she used to do the painting.

The picture below it is her version in the form of a painting. Using paints and brushes that were borrowed.

So the Pelican was after going to an art store, spending money on quality brushes, base paints to allow her to mix her own colors, getting it framed locally.

I realize I am her dad but I thought she did a fantastic job for her first time ever...

EDIT: Added one of her Self Portraits below..

Todd, she would freak out if you are serious.

It would make her feel great. I am sure she would want a very small amount of money to do so. It really is about how it makes her feel. When she gets home from school I'll ask her about it.

In the mean time, get a snap shot and send it to me. Digital will be fine. I'll print it from my e-mail. That is what she did for Oliver.

Dang that's good. I'm also interested in a painting of one of our dogs. My sis's birthday is coming up and it would make a great present, seeing as how we raised him, literally, from his birth in my sister's closet. I guess I'm in line behind Todd, but I'll send an e-mail.

Jeff, Todd,

very nice of you guys to feel she has done well enough that you want pictures done.

I know she will be WAY excited to hear that.

I promise, as soon as she is home from school I'll show her the post. She does not know I put this on-line. She will be very excited....

Thanks guys...

You need to seriously consider some art school to develop the potential she has.

She might be a natural, but some guidance will really hep her skills take off.

That is if she wants to follow that path, I don't know how old she is, but the youger, the better.

Fer, she is 12. And we did, as a result of her showing an interest, we enrolled her into a local art studio. The first picture of Oliver is her very first picture with very little teaching or training.

The Pelican was an on-going picture. Took her about 4 weeks I think, going to class once a week.

So after only 4 times in the class I feel there is a noticeable improvement.

Wow! I love the Pelican. It does what art should do. It doesn't bring the seaside to me, it takes me to the seaside. Obvious talent and a love for what she is doing.

you got mail..

I do a lot of art myself (sketching story boards, concepts art, etc.), but I must say... SHE HAS a gift ... looks like she is embracing it, which is good.

Art is an awesome tool for relaxation, self-esteem, and personal feeling of achievement.

Coasty,

Find out how much it would cost for her to do a dog on the same size canvas as the cat. I am also willing to purchase a painting of my dog.

Keep us informed.

Wow that is awesome! I want to get some airbrush on my Trac... :D Seriously though can she do people? If so I might send a pic of my roomates and I so we can hang it in the house. She has a whole lot of potential. That is definately one habit as a parent that you should be happy to support. :)

She did a self portrait using pencil. Various degrees of gray and black as well as thickness of the lead, (I know it is not lead, just don't know what it really is).

So I would think she can do people. I will show here this post after she is home and let her make her decisions on the questions asked by you guys/gals.

She is either going to be very mad at me or very happy.....

(I posted these without her knowledge. I am sure she will be very excited based on your comments).

Thanks all...
