well this is way off the charts...

i got into a work related accident back in April 18, 2006 while out on delivery for my county job of delivering beer, wine, liquor, and kegs. Anyway, i got jumped and someone hit me with a blunt object to the head. I ended up with brain trauma and skull injury. I ended up with 4 fractures to my skull just above my ear on the right side, lost 25% hearing in my right ear and i now have 25/20 vision in my right eye. i just started getting a little taste back and still havent gotten any of my smell back yet. My memory is probably the worst that i cant remember and wont remember, but im rebuilding that as the days go.

Anyway, i just wanted to put a post up, that me, my family have been fighting with workers comp since August '06. They had appealed my first court appearance and today was suppose to be that day, but my lawyers and workers comp lawyers made a deal and its not all that bad. I just thought id share this with my friends on the ST site. This is the deal:

Continue to get paid my salary until i return to work.

If i am unable to return to my current job, they will pay me to go to work training for another job for 60-90 days.

I will have a Lifetime Medical plan.

And i will receive a lump sum check for $40k.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

peace

Holly hell!!! Sorry to hear that. I work in an x-ray dept as a tech and that any head trauma isn't good. Glad to hear you are getting better and wish you a full recovery. Isn't it great how bad the companies will fight to keep from paying you the money you deserve. Glad to hear you are getting better.;)

Glad your injury's are healing/healed........

Nice to have you around !!!!

I didn't know you were hurt but I'm glad to hear you're doing better.

I used to work in a neuropsychiatric and rehab hospital, we had a head trauma unit and some docs there that did real good work with people.

shvdnlayd, a little long, but WELL WORTH READING in your case...

First, congrats on your survival and the fact that you have no lost critical motion and things to that nature..

Second, my brother was hit head on when a drunk crossed the center line. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics. Because of that, life flight turned around and waited for them to deliver the body to the hospital as they offered to take him to the morgue as they had to return to the main hospital anyways.

So they put him in the body bad and take him to the local hospital where the helicopter is. They load him into the chopper. The chopper leaves to go to the morgue. For some reason, the on board medic opens the bag to take a look at my brother. He noticed that they did not do a Tracheotomy. He dells the Flight Medic and they decide to give him a Trache. Now this is 37 minutes AFTER he was put into the ambulance and 48 minutes after he was pronounced dead.

So they give him the Trache and shock him as well as do Bag type CPR. He comes back to life within 1 minute. So now we are all thinking serious brain damage. But, they put him into a medical induced coma and continued to work on him for 2 months. The bring him out but he does not come out of the comma. So they pull his breathing tube to see if it will bring him around.

It does. If you were to meet him today and never knew him before you would think he suffered a small stroke. He has a slight speech impediment as well as a limp. But other than that, after a year of therapy he is good to go.

My point,,,, keep up the therapy, it is what made the difference with him as he could not speak, had an impossible time remembering things, lost the sight in his right eye and had no taste. Sound familiar????

Bottom line is, he has regained every loss I just mentioned but has retained his stroke like symptoms.

Miracles do happen, but it will take effort on your end to get there.

Best of luck to you. I mean that from the heart, I have been there done that. It was a LONG road, but the trip was worth it.
