I'm going to replace my front brake pads. I went to AutoZone to get some new pads and the guy at the counter wanted to know if i had one piston caliper or two piston calipers. I told him i had no idea because i've never had the wheels off. My Sport Trac is a 2002 model. Can anybody help me with the number of calipers i may have without taking the wheels off before i go buy the pads. Thanks!

Chad,

Yes they are two piston units. Be sure that you are getting parts for the Sport Trac. Many parts guys think the Explorer Sport Trac is the same as the Explorer Sport which came with smaller rotors and the calipers may not fit the Sport Trac.

Is it just me, or are the big auto parts stores lacking in the past couple of years? I mean it's not just them, I go to ford "factory" stores and get, "the computer says that's your part. I have no picture of it, but it's special order, and if it's not the right part, there are no returns."

It took me a while to find a competent dealership / parts guy, who put me on to the production date of the vehicle (job 2). He guaranteed it would be the correct part.

It is in any store you go into today... They have such a high turn over for many reasons, that no one is properly trained...

I had a guy argue with me on caliper pins.. OK.. each caliper has 2 bolts.. thus you would NEED 4 pins to replace all of them... THe kit comes 2 in a box... the computer says 1 kit per car... he argued with me for like 10 min...

yeah, I ordered Taylor wires from summit last week, and ordered what they said (on the website) was the correct set for our tracs... but when I got them I noticed they were for the 4.0l V6 OHV... not what we have which is the 4.0L V6 SOHC... THEY WERE TOO SHORT!!! so, needless to say, I got on the website, and sure enough the correct wires I needed were listed for the Explorer, and the wrong ones were listed for the Sport Trac. So anyway, I just sent them back today so I can get the right ones...

If you order taylors from summit, be aware of this minor detail!!
