Broken axle

I broke a driver side rear axle today while hill climbing off road . One very loud bang. Picked up a cheap replacement at AutoZone for now. Ford no longer sells them. Looking for a more permanent replacement.

I have whatever the new bran was at Rock auto almost 5 years now. you will be fine for normal use, I don't think they make hardened ones. ( Or take it apart and harden it yourself)

My Ford dealer is trying to find my some NOS axles. The aftermarket units have small diameter axle shafts. I off-road and off grid camp, so it is not normal use.

It is getting harder and harder to find good parts for our trucks.

Wow! Never saw anything like THAT before!

I think they are just 'case hardened' b/c you can see the heat-colors on them, esp. on the radiused transition.
