Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with their windshield cracking?

On Saturday, I went to wash the Trac, sprayed some water on the roof and heard a "pop", then watched the crack go from the top of the windshield to the down about half way. It was sunny out but not hot, about 70 degrees out and before washing I had the rear window vented so it was not much hoter inside the truck. I have done this many times before and never had this happen to any vehicle I have owned

Only thing I can figure is that earlier this winter I had a stone chip on the highway, a good smack to the windshield, I had it filled but the crack is deffinately heading in the direction of the stone chip?

It probably wasn?t filled correctly.

If it matters I?ve had to replace the windshield on my Trac more than any other car I?ve ever owned. The window guy said it might be the angle of the windshield and that it doesn?t deflect the impact from items well.

I agree with pete,

If you had a chip, and had it fixed, even if they did a good job, there is always the potential that it created a weak spot and any stress on the glass is going to be attracted to the weakest point.

Most temperature changes should not cause a windshield to crack, but if there is a weak spot, that often cannot handle the usual amount of stress or temperature changes?

If your insurance company paid for the chip repair, you might be able to get them to replace the windshield, since the chip fix did not work?
