Just finished installing my new JVC KD-HDR1 radio from Crutchfield. They supply everything, including removal tools, new harness and mounting adapter. Only thing I don't like is that now I will receive catalogs for the next 10 years from them. That is how long I got catalogs when I bought my last radio in 1991. But since I got speakers last year I was already getting them again. They tracked me to my new address.

Went pretty smooth. Sounds great. We even have some HD stations here. Even found some normal stations the old radio did not pickup, unless they are strictly HD and old unit couldn't receive HD...not sure about that aspect. So now I have to spend nights for next month reading manual to operate. Barely got clock set before gave up for night.

Lessons learned:

1. Make sure new radio is installed right side up! Had to remove and flip over. No big deal.

2. Remove CD from old radio before removing. Remove HU again...snap this time...reconnect power to old unit and eject CD, unplug old unit, reconnect new unit and re insert into housing.

I would post pic if my digital camera wasn't broke :(

Nice, I fall for the CD thing all the time. When I got rid of the stock player I left one in, and when I traded in my last 2 vehicles, a cd went with each!

I have heard the leaving a cd in the player is not such a bad thing as it helps to keep the laser mechanism from shifting out of place. Much like our stock radios require the locking insert for shipping or on some cd players come with the locking screw that you must remove before installation.

Suprisingly I can tell difference. Even the better half said she could tell it sounded better. So, I am well pleased with the unit.

Sound is crisper and cleaner.
