Anyone ever come across this website? I found it while looking for info on the wife's Mtsubishi Lancer. Looks like some good reference material.

Check it out - and no "thanks" required:p

Those are good guides, I've read them all a while ago. Good general knowledge on what the guide covers, but if you really want to know the nuts and bolts of some of the things, you may have to look elsewhere.

Went to the "engine oil" section, found the bit on magnets. Didn't mythbusters bust that one or is that for the fuel line?

Oh, and anyone use magnets to trap metal in their oil filters?

That was for the fuel line. It's actually not that uncommon to have a magnet in the tranny and/or oil pan. New motors will all have some bit of metal in them from the breaking in process, but like Bill said, if you've got metal bits in your oil all the time, you got problems.
