Hi all happy new year!!!

I drove to the Upper Penisula Michigan and on the drive up I have had some weird problems.

It started as I had the cruise control on going at about 70 mph the car would stop(cut out) and then start(go back to working). so I took off the cruise control. and it did it again later down the road. it seems like the fuel gets cut off on it. so sometimes it sputters and other times it shuts off the car.

sometime when it shuts off the car I cannot get it to turn back on for a minute or two.

I put some heat in the tank to dry it up. and still had the problem, the next day it ran fine, but yesterday it acted up and now I cannot start it. I try turning it over and I get sound and turning but engiine will not go. I have a full tnak of gas

Any suggestions what may be wrong?

I just got an allignment and a coolant flush that morning at the local firestone. Could something they did be causing the problem? I don't think a radiator flush would involve my gas system.

Help I am stuck in the middle of now where (with a place to stay) but no car to get home to Chicago.

Is your 'theft' light working properly? Or is staying on or flashing rapidly? If the theft light is not working correctly it could just be the chip in your key. Try your other key.

Second thought is do you have a chip? If so pull it out and see if that fixes your problem. Hopefully some other people will chime in as well.

I have no chip....the key is the same key I have used for ever and it was working and running when it started crapping out.

Sounds like bad gas. Have you tried to reset the fuel pump? Look in your owner's manual and give that a shot too.

I can't help diagnose the problem, but I know how it feels to be in the UP when the truck doesn't run.

In the past I remember problems with early models and the gas cap not sealing telling the computer to cut out. Take the gas cap off, fill up with good gas, and put it back on. I hope that works for you.

it turned out the be the winter mats hitting the fuel reset switch under the passenger foot well. Hit the switch and it started right up...also had it happen again and the switch got stuck (had to hit it with something and get it top reset and then pushed it in and started up.

so watch your big winter floor mats.

thanks
