Car Paint Help

my dad is about to paint his 83 ford f100, and we were wondering if anyone on here knows the proper steps to do it. Here's a couple questions for you paint gurus.



1. Since he is changing colors on the truck is it necesarry to use a sealer. If so what is the order it goes on. Is it Sealer/Primer/basecoat/Clear or primer first?



2. What paint gives best overall glossy result? Urethane/ Laquer......



3. What is a Reducer for? is it just to thin out the paint for ease of spraying?



4. What is a Clearcoad hadener? is it mandatory with clearcoats?



5. and last At what ration do you have to mix all this stuff and is there any kit that is premixed?

PPG has a refinish manual that will explain all of your questions. Go to the paint store and

ask for one. Dupont also has the same thing for all of their products.

i have done a lot of reading on the PPG and dupont websites but it just confused me more. They have so many products and variations i don't even know what to mix with what, maybe i'll just tell my dad to go to maco for their $300 special :lol:
