Cat. Converter?

Ok so yesterday i was looking underneath my car at the muffler because I am going to get a new flowmaster muffler and noticed something behind the muffler, and I told my friend that the cat. converter was behind the muffler, and he said that is not possible, looked underneath my car and was confused on what it was, but still insisted that it was not the the cat. converter, so if it is not then what is it?

What that is , is a resonator..designed to make the exhaust qiueter...if you want a louder exhaust note remove it also....the cat converters are always in front of the main muffler close to the engine...

So when i get my Flowmaster super 40 series installed in a few days i should tell them to take off the resonator, right?

Or tell them to let you hear it before they remove it and decide if thats the sound you want.
