I'm looking for the plastic elbow that everyone says can crack and cause the cel. The only 2 plastic elbows I've found on my 01 4x4 are:

1- the one that goes to the heater core/firewall and is full of antifreeze/water. I know it's not that one...

2- the other one is about 18" long, and goes from the tube connecting the air filter housing and it goes to a whatchamacallit on the rear of the motor, but on top. I pulled it loose, but couldn't get it out to inspect it. I know this is gross and unclean, but I plugged one end with my finger and sucked on it. It didn't leak, so I'm assuming it doesn't have a leak.

My question, is the #2 above the elbow that is prone to cracking.

I've seen the pix several times, but can't find it on mine- unless that one above is it.

Here is a picture of the elbo. This picture is a 2001 Job 2 and newer vehicle. If you have a 01 Job 1 then I am not sure where the hose is.

And yes, it is prone to cracking...

On the pic you see the braided hose, that one is on the passenger side of the engine and goes to the radiator. You need to move it over a little and you'll see the 2 smaller hoses and the one the pic refers to is the lower one

YOU MUST REMOVE THE PLASTIC 4.0L COVER..BE SURE TO PULL OFF THE ELBOW AND CHECK IT!! JUST LOOKING AT IT WON'T DO!!

ok. I posted a pic in my library of my engine. Can someone save the picture to your computer, mark where I should find the elbow and then post the picture in the forum or email it to me. I'd appreciate it a lot. I can't beleive I can't find it. I'm probably staring at it and not seeing it.

Thanks. Glennard.

That engine does look different... Could you get a closer shot of the area highlighted and maybe a shot from above the same area?

I agree. Looks like a Job 1 engine. If so, I do not know where the hose is.

I would suggest getting a can of Carburetor cleaner. Start the engine. Spray any vacuum hoses and the intake at the seems. If the engine revs up or stumbles then you have found a vacuum leak. Off hand, it is the best I can offer...

That said, if you do find the item(s) creating the issue please advise us as to what it is and get a picture of it. The Job 1 engines have always been an issue as they are not the norm

I've added two more, but overwrote the first, pictures of the engine. Any help in finding that elbow will prove to be priceless. Again, thanks to all who are helping. You are amazing!

Glen,

I can't find anything that looks like the hose... As Coastiejoe suggested, you might want to try using the carb cleaner around, it might even be on the other side of the engine, if I remember correctly they also changed the Oil stick from the other side of the engine with the Job 2s... Sorry.

Danggit, I would buy one with a motor that no one can seem to figure out. Just my luck. My prob. is, I've got to get it to pass inspection....

If I get any other info or need mo help, I'll post another question and not keep this one getting longer.

Thanks for all your help in this!!!!!!!!!
