CEL PO442, keeps coming back about every so often. Help.

O.k. so every couple times I fill up my tank the CEL code PO442 will pop up. :cry:

I've replaced the stock gas cap with a locking one about a year ago thinking that would fix it.

It only comes on about once a month but it's really getting old. I checked the tubes under the bed by the spare tire carrier, all good as far as I can tell. What else could it be, it seems to come on awhile after I fiil up the gas tank-leading me to believe it's the gas cap. I've tried moving the o-ring up everytime I remove the cap, maybe it's just not staying put??????

I would suggest that you replace the locking gas cap with a new Motorcraft unit. If your state has emissions testing you could take your old motorcraft cap to as test center and have it tested, if you do not want to try a new one. My new one was about $22 at the dealership.

I have the OEM ford locking cap, No issues......



Try that or put on a regular cap and try that for a bit

Thanks guys, I'll try a Ford locking cap. The one I have on there now is from Pep Boys.
