Got this reminder form my agency. Thought I'd pass it on. You can call or do it on-lne. On line you can do three phones at a time...

FYI....This toll free number goes to the FTC.....

Subject:? Cell Numbers Going Public

JUST A REMINDER,? 14 days from today, cell phone numbers are being

released

to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU

WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!

These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up

costing you money in the long run. To prevent this, call the

following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the

National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.

You can also register online by going to

https://www.donotcall.gov

It blocks your number for five (5) years.

PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

From the Federal trade Commision:

"If you’ve received an e-mail telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database, rest assured that this is not the case. Telemarketing to cell phone numbers has always been illegal in most cases and will continue to be so. In response to recent e-mail campaigns urging consumers to place their cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission issue this advisory to give consumers the facts."

Kevin,

I heard on our local news that the releasing of Cell phone numbers to the telemarkters was not true. The FTC or FCC denied that request strickly because the consumer would be unfairly charged for airtime.

The latest strategy of the telemarketers is to call without stating the name of the company and give a recorded sales pitch stating they have some new healthcare plan that you cannot pass up. If you wish to hear more about this exciting new plan, press #1. If you press #1 you are asked to leave your name and phone number and one of their representatives will call you back. If you do that they have your recorded voice asking them to call you back and you cannot complaint that you are on the No-Call list. If you don't Press #1 and leave your name and number, they continue to call you back about once per day! Very Irritating!

When I got the message I was in the air flying. It came across my PDA. Sooo, since it came from our agency I assumed they had some insight. Guess not... LOL

sorry for wasting space...

I edited the link and it does take you to a Do Not Call Registry. I had to remove the double HTTP//.

I can't tell you if it will do any good or not,,,, but the link is working.,
