Bout to change the oil this weekend. I swapped it over to synthetic the last time I changed the oil. I can't remember how many quarts it takes. The oil ain't cheap and I don't want to buy an extra quart if I don't need it. So how many?

I've used the Fram T-22 in the past but I've recently heard some bad things about these filters. What are some of yall's opinions on filters? I'm not starting a war over which oil is bettter. (Seen that thread a million times..lol.) I just want to talk filters... Thanks in advance for any help.

Just buy 6 that come in the box. Makes it easier to handle, and i believe they take 5 1/2 quarts. I use Royal Purple, its pretty good. But yea... filters wise i would just stick with motorcraft. i think the part number is 820s or something. i haven't changed in while. Hard to remember. But i would just stick with motorcraft part. Less theres something better out there.

5 quarts. A plain old Motorcraft filter is vastly superior to a Fram and costs about the same. Purolator PureONE and NAPA Gold are very good filters also but cost a little more. Top-of-the-line are K&N and Mobil 1 filters but they cost between $9.99 and $11.99 depending.

I use Motorcraft.

5 qts,

also remove the oil dipstick before you re fill the engine...

It may take up to 5.5 qts if you let it drain really good. and depending how much oil is in each qt bottle..

Buy a good filter since your using synthetic. I use K&N, but only because I change my oil every 10,000. Other option is to just change the filter itself after 4 or 5k.

what part number of oil filter is the K&N one? I have been using fram for the longest time without a problem but think i might change it up. I have a 01 ST Job 2.

I'm with TomT. I change my Motorcraft filter at 5K and my Royal Purple at 10K. I've done this with my last 4 vehicles and have had no problems with any of them.

Big D. I last bought the K & N from Amazon. No tax and free shipping if you buy extra filters or other stuff and get your order above $25. Best deal I have found so far. Here's a link to the right filter:

You change synthetic oil every 3500 miles and you're worried about wasting money from buying an extra quart at the parts store?

You ARE kidding, right?

One of the benefits of synthetic oil is you don't have to change it but once every 10,000 or so miles. Shoot, 3500 miles is too short of an oil change interval on regular oil...much less the good stuff.

I usually grab the 5qt bottle of mobil1 at walmart for $20, and a motocraft or pureOne filter.

Nobleman's idea is the way I go, also. 5 quart container of Mobil 1 at Wal Mart,

cause it's four bucks cheaper than the Auto Zone by my house, and the Motorcraft

820 S filter at Auto Zone, 'cause my Wally World doesn't stock any filters except

their own brand . I change my oil every 5,000 with the the Mobil 1, sometimes

closer to 6,000 miles depending on how hard or easy I've driven her.

Tiger.. I understand what you're saying.. I've been using regular oil for so long it's just habbit. I have always changed at 3,500 cause I drive like I stole it..Just being cautious..I didn't know you could get that long outta the synthetic. I assumed 5,000 or so.. Thats good to know.

Thanks for that link, TomT. Bought myself a couple of filters (and a book) to get free shipping (and no tax). Every penny counts on frequent item purchases.
