I had the same issue awhile back, mine was a vent line that was tied into the air box above the spare tire. I had to drop the air box when I changed my rear shocks & I didnt get one of them reconnected good!

Kenny is right check all tubing connection. You mayhave to trim the end then tie wrap it thight.

The O-ring on the cap seems to fail somewhat often as well. At the very least, clean it with some windez and then put a light coat of oil on it to get it to seal again.

As the others said, the vent / tube is also a common failure..

It would help to know the code(s). But since you tried a new gas cap, you probably have a problem with your evaporative emission control system. The "evap" system is essentially a canister of charcoal that holds and condenses fuel vapors, then returns them into your fuel system. When it's working properly, it saves you fuel that would otherwise be lost. But it does rely on hoses that can crack or be damaged.

Your '01 should NOT have any vent to the atmosphere, and most certainly should not have an "air box" that unburned fuel can get into! That's just asking for trouble...

If somebody has modified your fuel system "for better performance", you might have to spend a large chunk of change to put it right again. But that's better than turning into a rolling fireball, which is what could happen if your evap system has been tampered with.
