I recently had a problem with overheating. The check engine light came on, and the 'check guage' light came on. I noticed that the coolant overflow tank was full! I waited until the truck cooled down, then checked the tank and it was empty. I filled the radiator (lost some when opening the cap), put some in the tank, and ran the truck at idle for a while. I read about the cap and fan, and made sure they were working, and it appears so. But my C.E.L. is still on. How does that work? Does it need to be reset, or does it automatically go off if the problem is fixed?

It will go off after several driving days or cycles...

You can speed it up by disconnecting the neg battery cable for 10-20 min....

Also most auto parts stores will reset it for free...

I would also recommend a coolant system test to be sure you don't have a leak or something worse..
