For my wife and I, 27yo and 28 respectively, non-tobacco users, and the cheapest is $442/mo. and the deductible is $1,200 higher than my current and is only the "Catastrophic" coverage, i.e. bad coverage.

It jumps significantly in price for the next levels of coverage and even those coverages suck.

I currently pay $565/mo (was $490 until this month) with a $5k/person deductible for the Premium PPO w/ maternity that rolls into child coverage. There was no coverage that good even offered on the exchange yet some of them were upwards of $875/mo. I've also been informed this coverage will no longer be available next year and they will inform me what they can offer at that time.

Poor people rejoice! Your savior has provided and relieved you of the oppressive free market!

You were able to get into your state exchange's web site?! You've made it further than I.

Though I think my problem might be that, with the govt shutdown (hooray!), there are so many people sitting around at home in my state with nothing better to do than go to the website en masse and have crashed it. Maryland's democrats have stated that MD is recession-proof due to the high number of its residents working for The Man in DC. Oops.

Reading those prices, I feel kinda bad that I mock the high monthly lease prices on the tv commercials for the "luxury" cars; 400 bucks a month will get me a luxury car but it won't get me a "cadillac" health care plan. :banghead:

I thought you just signed up and it was free.:bwahaha:

Do you think that most of the people signing up on the gov exchange know they have to pay.

In the end, I'll bet the chosen will pay very little , if anything for their healthcare.

That was the price quoted without knowing anything about me except age and that we don't smoke.

No, no they don't. I have family members in the medical field who have been turning away people weekly that come in, ask to be seen and then are incredibly confused when they are asked for their insurance card. They always say, without fail, "I want to use Obamacare." These are the voting public.:banghead:

This is going to be just as hilarious (read: sad) as when taxes went up this spring and I got to sit back and laugh in the breakroom the day after the first checks were issued after taxes went up. All those making minimum wage were really confused because they aren't rich and their checks were smaller. Now, on top of being taxed higher, they're not allowed to get over 28 hours, very strictly enforced, and full time positions are very unlikely to be added.

Starting to shape up like another government revenue stream.

Next, they'll take over developing software and apps.

just a point of curiosity...when the state AGs sued about obamacare and our illustrious idiot of a chief justice ruled that the feds could not "fine" you for not having insurance but could "tax" you....has congress ever changed the law to address that issue? I'm thinking they have not....so is the ACA enforceable now?

Hugh,

I think that points out to why the government is shut down. Obama promised everyone that if they had HC insurance they could keep it and it would not cost them any more...and will probably cost less. Now that the true costs are starting to be exposed, the Republican Congress are stating that these costs were not revealed when the ObamaCare law was passed.

Gavin,

I agree...but Obama said that would not happen, but it did. Most of the extra cost associated with old HC plans is that some did not meet the Obama sniff test that he deemed as inadequate coverage. So even thought these plans fit perfectly the needs and financial requirements of the people who had them, they were not sufficient to meet the ObamaCare minimum standards. This opened up pandora's box and allowed insurance companies to eliminate these cost effective HC plans and increase the cost to meet ObamaCare standards.

ObamaCare is no more about quality healthcare than Solyndra was about solar...IMO! Comrade
