Hey all, newish guy here. I purchased a 2007 ST Limited with the 4.6L w/ 108k miles on it a couple months ago. I've been driving it daily and love it! It is really in great shape and runs fantasically.
As a goof, I tried adding it to the FordPass app I used for my previous truck and my wife's Edge. Surprisingly, FordPass let me add it even though it's 15 years old. Even better, I got access to the previous owner's service history, which was comprehensive. The only gotcha is that it only shows very generalized names for each service (e.g., "Scheduled Maintenance" or "Electrical", etc...)without any detail about the actual service performed. It also shows the amount spent, and I was curious when I saw a couple recent ones for around $1.5k and one from 2 years ago for over $7k!
This morning, I reached out to the dealer that performed the work and asked for a redacted copy of the service orders. They emailed it within 15 minutes (kudos to the Service Advisor)!
The findings? It had a new engine installed only 17k miles ago. It also has a new alternator, starter, BCM, fuel pump, ignition coils, battery, and blend door actuator within the last couple of years.
I am so happy that:
1). It has a new engine in it from Ford (re-man'd, I'm sure).
2). I don't have to deal with the crappy-ass 2 piece spark-plugs they originally put in the 3 valves!
3). A lot of parts that would have been close to the end of their useful life have been replaced as well (coils, alternator, starter, BCM, fuel pump)
I feel like it's Christmas in August! I already had a good deal on the truck ($8k), but now I feel like I got a great deal! The guy I bought it from got it at a dealer auction, so he didn't know all of the above, or else he likely would have upped the price substantially.
Devil's Advocate: Of course, this also means the truck needed a new engine at 91k miles, which you would think would mean that it may not have been maintained. But the service history shows regular scheduled maintenance. Who knows? I guess I'll find out!
