Id like to paint the cladding on my ST, but what I need to know is what Brand/Type of Paint should be used? I know there is special primers for plastic, etc...

Please only reply if you have USED the paint before, and know it stands up well to the abuse of the road...

Thanks.

I'm with Daniel on the bumper coating, on top of adhesion promoter, if you are going for a low gloss black finish. My new ST is black, so I took the time to smooth out the cladding with glazing and spotting putty, or you can use lightweight bondo. I do not have pictures in my library yet, because I just finished the cladding yesterday. I used Duplicolor primer filler, then black primer, then 3 light coats of universal gloss black and finally 3 light coats of clear coat. Finish off with rubbing compound and mcquire's 3 step cleaner, policher, finisher waxes, and BOOM!!! The finished product was very nice. I did the same with my running boards tonight, but there was no need for the spotting putty. As for holding up over a long period of abuse...I'll have to get back with you on that one...

Did mine with Body shop equipment, so i use body shop paint..

Plastic parts cleaner, Adhesion promoter, PPG gloss black with rubberize additive...

Sounds good... I will be doing mine with spray equipment as well.

Thanks for the help everyone! I cant wait to see my ST Monotone.

Another question that I have in regards to 'cladding paint' is if the side/top rails of the bed are paintable... I would assume its the same steps as the underbody cladding? As well as the side mirrors...

There is a nice line around the entire box, and id like to have the entire vehicle 1 color, with the exception of around the windows.

I guess what im trying to do is make the old sport track look similar to the new 07 SVT... I dont know where I can locate this hood, or a similar hood, anyone know about this?

Krylon fusion or any paint for plastic, I used canned paint. I taped up the truck and went to town on the bumpers. Holds up pretty good and it is cheap and easy. Don't be intimidated by those that choose to use expensive equipment and put several coats on their truck. I put probably two coats in total and it looks fine. Then again it doesn't have to stand up to salt on the roads, mud or other abuse of that kind.
