Classic Ford Found

Thanks for your earlier suggestions regarding my search for a vehicle for my grandson. I think I have found it, unless I hear some horror stories from y'all. It is a 67 Bronco. It is a inline 6 with 3 spd column ( I would change to floor). Its 4 X 4. It has hard top and rag top. Runs good but needs cosmetics. No rust. It is in Texas. Asking price is $3000.00. I rarely see these in my part of the country and my research hasn't garnered much info for me. I would appreciate comments.

Iam not bad mouthing the bronco, I think it is cool...But my nephew rolled a black one with the hardtop, in a 45mph avoidance manuver...his hands were on top of the steering wheel..he went thrugh years of plastic surgery...your grandson needs to learn the limitations of it....

A friend of mine is huge into Broncos.. (check out my library for some photos).



I guess my question for you is - what are your intentions by buying this vehicle for him? Is it going to be a project vehicle, or a daily driver? As a project vehicle, Broncos are GREAT, and you can certainly sink alot of money into it. They are head turners, because you don't see alot of them around (unlike Jeep, which your grandson will hear it being referred to as, more often than properly being called a Bronco.) As a daily driver, prepare to spend money on it.. I believe that year is drum in the front, unless it's been converted. It may not have power brakes or steering as well.



It's also a 40 year old vehicle, so expect to be sinking money into it to get it roadworthy.



There are alot of websites out there for Broncos, and even a magazine for Bronco enthusiasts - Bronco Driver Magazine, which has alot of great tech articles. I'd recommend a subscription to that mag if you buy it for him.

I have been a Bronco fan since their conception in 1964. I still own a 79 and an 87. I would have a 2006 if they were still available. IMHO they are one of the most dependable vehicle on the highway. My obsession for Broncos' is what put me in my Sport Trac. To date the Trac has shown me to be as rugged and dependable as the Broncos'. I say go for it. It will turn out to be a head turner when completed.

I read back through your posts and found the one about what type of vehicle you were looking for for your grandson. I'll give you some more input...



First, you said it has no rust. Have you looked under the hood, at the back of the cowl? That area is notorious for rusting out. There is one place that makes replacement parts for it (my ex-bf restored his Bronco twice, and he had to custom fabricate those pieces, as they were not available yet.) Here's a pic:

I own a 1966 Bronco. it is back in Texas also. with the rest of my life. I am in Afghanistan, so it is all nostalgic to me right now, but I truly enjoyed the time I spent working on it. it is a fun driver and a great head turner. I did not go all out on the exterior since I intend to go off roading with it and I know that I will tear it up. I would not trade the years of fun I had building it with my friends for anything in the world. I say years because we were constantly upgrading and changing things as we found new ways to make it fly higher and go faster. I have progressed to the Wild Horses Rock Crawling springs with the 5 and 1/2 Inch lift and they are the best of all worlds. If you are buying it to build it with your Grandson, then you will not find a better way to get closer and leave him with a lasting part of you. If you are going to do it your self then you will still not have a better way of leaving him part of your blood and sweat as a momento. So either way, go for it. It will be a lasting memory and there are parts for it all over the place. I would recomend puting in a mustang GT 5.0 with the factory fuel injection for reliability and fuel economy. mine went from 6 MPG to 17 MPG and starts every time no matter the temperature out side. It did not like to start in the cold when it had the 400+ HP 351 Windsor that was balanced and Blue printed. However, it was untouchable when it did start. now it is tame and dependable. I even used it as my work truck for one season. Over 300 miles a day 7 days a week. just got too expensive on fuel. and so I bought my ST.
