When I have my 02 in 4 wheel drive I hear a clunking noise occasionally. When it is in 2 wheel drive there is no clunking noise. Is this a very bad sign?

U-joint if the driveshaft wiggles when you try to twist it by hand, for CV's find an empty parking lot, put the windows down, drive in a tight circle with the steering at full lock in both directions and listen for clicking or other unpleasant noises.

on the highway in 2wd get next to a concrete divider on the left side of the road / left lane. lower your driver side window and listen for what sounds like a chain sliding loosly over a pipe or a pulley.

vibration in 4wd, really bad like a moaning, or roaring over 20MPH.

What JohnnyO said about the shaft moving by hand.

Bad u-joint.

My just started doing this this morning. Did you get yours fix? What was the problem? Is it transmission problems? I have an 02 with 61,000

Thanks!
