I can only imagine how PISSED other parents and what nor were... LOL

I will be sending this to a friend of mine that coaches kids that age.

It would be GREAT to see if he tries to pull it off...

They learned that from a team that pulled it a few years ago--and got enough fame for it that the center and quarterback appeared on Letterman...

Seen that before. Perfectly legal, if not fair. It's a good way to teach defences that the ball is live till you hear a whistle. Luckily, the defence here didn't pay attention, because that would be a real good way of getting your QB leveled when he wasn't expecting it.;)

This was on the news lately. The coaches had told the referees that they would be doing this to give them a heads up. Awkward for the other team I bet.

Not that it is right but that QB would get his due later and I would send my nastiest player into their coach - a sweep to the outside that ends up into his knee and or groin. Two wrongs don't make a right but it would keep that SOB coach from pulling this BS ever again and realizing he disrepected a whole team, wait, two whole teams of football players.

As far as the QB, he is obviously old enough to know what it going on so not all blame goes on the coaches - he would take a few shots and then realize to play within the spirit of the game.

I've seen the same crap in baseball where a defensive player tells the runner he has to 'fix the bag' so the runner steps off and gets tagged out. This was in men's league. Cheap play by the defense, stupid play by the runner - wrong all around.

It's a freakin' game ferchrissakes.

Exactly, so why do they have to cheat to win? Straighten the kid out early in life so he does not grow up to be like his coach.

Put the coach in his place because he needs it.

They didn't cheat. That play follows the rule book to the letter. The line was set, and the center snapped the ball to the QB. One of the reasons football is fun to watch, is when teams find creative ways to make plays and score. Without that kind of creativity, we wouldn't have the flea-flicker, the halfback option pass, etc. Just because the play didn't start at full speed, doesn't make it a cheap trick.

Cheap or cheating? Heck no. It's good FUNDAMENTAL football.

What about fake punts runs/passes? Or fake field goal attempts? Or fake PAT attempts? Are those any more cheap or "cheating" then this play? Or rather, is this play any more devious and "against the spirit of the game" then a fake anything else? What about fake passes or hand-offs? Or half/fullback direct snaps? Or flea-flickers/statue of liberty plays? How are any of those tricks and fakes any different? Seriously, how dare a team try something different or new? Should there be rules on the books that say that only a quarterback (or kicker and placeholder) can receive the ball via a snap through the legs from the center, and then only the quarterback can only use one throwing motion, where he must throw the ball, or only one hand-off motion where he must hand-off the ball. And no fake-outs when running either. You gotta run in a straight line only, no jukes or bobs. Oh, and no false formations. That goes for defenses too. If you line up and act like you are going to blitz, you must blitz. If a cornerback lines up with a wide receiver, he must run with that receiver, no CB blitzes.

Talk a boring ass game.

No rules were broken, no spirit of the rules were infringed. There are fakes and false moves all the damn time in football. Perhaps only soccer would be close in having the same number of fakes. Fakes and false moves are a part of the game. You get rewarded for heads-up play and action, and you get bit in the ass when you sit back and just let things happen. The above clip is a prime example of sitting back and waiting, and it bit the defense hard. When the center passes the ball to a different player, the play is active, and you should move. And don't stop until you hear a whistle. That is fundamental defense, and this team failed hardcore.

Pay attention to the game a bit more, it's not all nice and simple plays. Every play is meant to throw the other team off somehow. Anything from lining up line backers to show blitz, to cut runs by receivers. Fake throws, play action, and even head bobs and hard counts by the quarterback. Each is devious in its own way. I applaud the coaches for doing this. I'd bet that you'd not be able to pull this play against that team again. They learned their lesson.

Eric P - Watch the play - that ball was not 'snapped' it was handed to the QB. The center stood up and handed the ball to the QB.

No rules were broken execpt for 'the spirit of the game'. Yes, the majority of football is based upon deception but this was taking advantage of the age of the kids - THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT WRONG. This would not fly at high school and above.

This play is different as it should work once and only once as opposed to direct snaps, fake punts, blitzes, stunts, etc that have become part of the game. This will never become part of the game and will never be written in any play book.

I personally would be embarrassed if I was that coach.

Somehow, I'm just not seeing how the age of the players matters one bit. When playing in young rec. leagues, that is when you're supposed to learn fundamentals. You don't wait until high school to figure out how to play the game, you sharpen your skills in high school.

What would you suggest, dumb down the game so it's "fair" for the kids? Much the same way tee-ball is dumbed down and a mockery of the game of baseball. You know, don't count downs, just let them go down the field until they score. Turnovers don't count, that sorta thing. That wouldn't teach the kids anything.

There once was a time when direct snaps, laterals, fake plays weren't in football. They were new plays that threw the competition off. They worked well enough that now they are part of the game. Sure, you may not be able to pull this off more then a few times, but you think Cal would be able to script their miraculous touchdown again Standford more then a few times? That is touted as a great play, but a trick play in the same vein none the less.

It's not a cheat, but it is a trick.

Deception should be part of the game, for some plays, but this takes things a little too far, IMHO.

No doubt the kids on the scoring team were cheering after the play, but I doubt it was because they taught the other team a lesson or gave them an education in the game.

I'm not even so sure there was any "intended lesson" here, just the attempt pull one over on the other team with a stunt.

Like others have said, it may be legal, but that doesn't make it sportsman like.

In short the other team got....
