So it craps out tonight, has been a total PITA for the past year.

So i call the 800 #, get this lady in bangladish, she can barely speak english, no help, no fix.

what has this country turned into.

You pay an american company for a service, than you have to deal with offshore idiots to get it to work, which they cannot do.

Comcast is the same over here on the East Coast, and the same in the midwest...

#1 in customer service dissatisfaction.

Around here, it had a monopoly in many areas...still does, sadly...the coming of FiOS is like the 2nd Coming in regards to TV 'round here lol.

My job has me working with people who can't speak English or communicate effectively by any means...and they're right here in America :(

I try to repress my memories of the DMV...the closest thing to English spoken at mine is ebonics.

They just tried to change the laws for getting a license here in MD--different qualifications to be a "legal MD resident"--and people who couldn't & wouldn't speak a lick of English came out of the woodwork to get their licenses done on the last days. I was amazed--most of them weren't illegal hispanics. Sadly, I had to be in there for that :(

Here the DMV has a little course you have to drive to get your license...no road test, just a simple little course. I saw a russian speaking man go to drive the course with an instructor/evaluator, and since he couldn't understand the instructor, he got his buddy who could sorta speak it to go with him and interpret. The rules say only 2 people in the car--testee and instructor. He got an exception :(

On what you mention, I can't believe that people at the local community college have repeatedly tried to get laws passed to take the English off of street signs, leave the symbols the same, and put in Spanish words. Their logic being that since "we" already know what the symbols mean, but they don't, they need to be able to read....I can't find anything right with that.

DMV...LOL

I was dragged out of the one closest to me by 2 cops hand cuffed !!...

I won the case, But it actually was worth it !!

Sadistic ???

I've had Comcast for a number of years and just got fed up and went to Fios. At least with Fios if I have a problem I get an American that speaks English:banana::banana::cool: With Comcast I would ask for a supervisor and they will transfer you to someone who speaks English.

So, now that you've got my curiosity going, and if you don't mind me asking, what got you "escorted" out of the DMV?

Was without internet service via Comcast the other night starting at 12:30am. Was out for at least two hours. Called after one our of outtage and got the automated response that there is "maintenance ongoing in your area". The automated system offered to "call me back" when service was restored. When I woke up at 6am service was already restored. Around 10am I got that automated call.

I've talked to real customer service representatives from Comcast before. Most recently on a set-top entitlements issue. They had to do a truck-roll because they couldn't resynch the entitlements on the digital box (their issue). Before the truck showed up on a Sunday the service rep called a customer service rep that he works with all the time and got the box reset properly 10 minutes before showing up to the house.

Oh, and BTW, I'm pretty sure I talked with U.S. based reps the whole time. A lot of it depends on your local time. Late night on the west coast might very well NOT be covered by U.S. (follow-the-sun customer service).

My #1 complaint about Comcast is that they don't have any real competition in our area. Verizon Fios is a joke, IMHO. I want competitors to provide essentially the same service, for a lower price. That's competition to me. Giving me more stuff I don't want at the same price, or a higher price, isn't competitive.

Having lived in NY much of my life, I can probably predict that the DMV in question had some "less than helpful" folks working at it that pushed Todd past his tolerance of waiting and jumping through "hoops" (e.g. "no sir, you need to go to the back of 'that' line and wait another hour for your turn.")

I've seen it happen before. NY DMV: stupid lines, stupid systems, stupid processes, all run (typically) by lazy, not so bright minorities on a power trip! Yeah, I said it, and I won't apologize. Being observant DOES NOT equal RACISM.

I can only assume you receive at least three FiOS mailings per week, right?

I came to the same conclusion you did. To bring FiOS to my level of Comcast service, the price was nearly equal. I figured the switch was not worth saving $13 over the course of one year.

KL, TJR,

I had a long reply written with the whole story and hit the dam back button and lost it....

ARGH !!!!

One day i will re type it..
