Are there any free programs for virus protection out there that don't hassle you about upgrades. I'm running AVG right now, but they say the free version has run out. Thanks.

Gary D.

You must have the old version of AVG, their newer 8.0 is still free, but it does have some ads for upgrading, but doesn't bother you about it.

Just download a new copy of AVG and reinstall it. I'm not sure what you're talking with regard to your current installation saying it "has run out". I've been running AVG Free for for a couple of years now, and never received such a message.

Free AVG is still the best game in town (because it is FREE and it is lightweight). Yes, every year or so Grisoft makes you jump through hoops and makes it appear as if you have to upgrade, but if you search, you can find the link to download the free version.

7.something expired back in June or July.. it didn't so much expire as they released a new free version and just stopped supporting the older 7.whatever.

Been using AVG since version 7. Using 8 now. Works well. Have seen it save a PC that was on it's way to virus hell, running a recent, paid version of Norton.
