I know this is getting to be a pain. This could be a long post but here goes.

As stated before, I had to reboot my computer to get my AVG removed because of it saying a file was missing and it wouldn't let me take the version I had off (7.1 I think) and redownload it off the site again. I don't have it on there anymore, but when I rebooted it put Norton back on since it came with the computer. All in all it's not bad but I'd rather have AVG on but now I can't get Norton off. I have tried the "Add and Remove Programs" but when I highlight the norton stuff there is no "Change/Remove" button. It doesn't even list the file size beside it. It's almost like I don't have administator rights. I've checked my settings and all the boxes are check for "full control" etc. Anyway, back to the problem. I've also tried to use the program from Microsoft (Windows Installation Cleaner) and all it did was make the Icon on my desktop look like a page file. Everything still worked. I'm pretty baffled. The only thing else I can do is to do a system restore and put it back to a time before it was installed. (then of course I'd have about another hour of work to get all the other programs back on that I put on after) I know when we bought the computer I had to set up norton and was able to remove it through "Add and Remove" when I put on AVG. What the hell is going on? I'm not totally computer illiterate but this has got me pretty P-ed off. I'm at work right now and won't get home till 5pm so any sugestions will be done tonight but I will watch the post and try to answer any questions I can during the day. Thanks in advance.;)

Try this if you haven't already. Make a restore point.Down Load and use ccleaner (ccleaner.com) suggested by Fer .Manually delete all files marked grisoft and avg. Run CCleaner, click the issues tab ,click scan for issues (this will scan the reg ), after the scan click the fix selected issues tab. A popup alert will ask you if you want to backup first. Click yes and save to a file (create a folder ,name it cc backup or what ever, save to that file). When saved ,fix selected issues , yes to all. You might want to uncheck the box next to unused file extensions (on the left side) Sometimes it can delete an extension that you still need, but haven't used that application for some time.

I don't have anything from Grisoft on the computer. I'm sure now if I wanted I can get the download and put it on. The problem is now that, I can't get Norton off. The program itself doesn't have an "uninstall" setting on it. When I go to "add/remove" it won't give me the option to remove the program. (it's a completely different look when highlighted than I've seen before) I have CCleaner and when I try it, nothing happens. It's kindof weird. I just figured I'd throw this on here instead of throwing the computer out the window. I will probably just have to go to my restore and start my computer before Norton got installed. The only reason I had it installed was because of the AVG being empty after rebooting the syatem and the computer being valnerable at the time. (I have DSL) I did that before but didn't have this problem to get rid of Norton the last time.

went to the symantec web site and found how to manually remove norton antivirus........holy cr*p .....

search symantec for manual remove

Good Luck

Yah.. you'll need to manually remove it.. and sometimes you need to run a couple of utilities to replace files, etc. It's all in the instructions, depending on which version of Symantec/Norton you have.

When I wanted to completely remove NAV, I had to manually remove the folder from the Program files folder, remove the Symantec folder from the Shared Applications folder, remove the LiveUpdate and Symantec folders from the Local Settings subdirectory on every user's folder, and then run ccleaner to find "Link no longer valid" or something like that on the registry, and clean them up.

That is a bit of brute force, but some apps won't let you other exit... Just my 2 cts...

It is hard to find but there is a software removel program for different versions of norton hinden on the norton site. I have then down loaded at work. When everything fails to remove norton they so far have not failed once..
