Like the title says. My fan is making noise kind of like a bearing is going bad sort of noise.

I have never replace a fan on a Laptop. Any real trick to it or pretty simple once I open it up?

Thanks in advance...

First, get a can of air duster and give it several shots while it is off wait a few minutes, power it up and try it again. Sometimes just getting the dust off helps (as that can knock it out of balance, etc).

I have never replaced one on a laptop. Shouldn't be too hard though.

Coastie, should be pretty easy. Once I figured out how to get mine open after my little "accident" of dropping the laptop with the wireless card hanging out, it was simple to access. The fan on mine was unplugged.

I would try to clean it like others have said.

Make sure the grille in front of the fan hasn't been pushed up into the fan. On my Toshiba, if I set it down or even have it in my lap with too much pressure on the grille, it'll push up into the fan and make a noise.

When does it make the noise? When you load a cd or dvd? or all the time. My Toshiba Satellite is a bit noisy when it loads dvd's or cd's.

It turns off an on as needed to cool the mother board. It has bean fine for almost 2 years now. However, in the last few days I can actually hear the fan, not the air coming out, but the fan motor itself. Sounds just like a bearing that is failing on electric motors for example.

So basically, any time the fan spins I now hear it...

Good point on the oil. Plan on opening it up tomorrow and see what is in there. If nothing else. The oil will by time until I get the correct product.

Thanks all.

Ok, went tot he store and bought; Dust Removing Spray, Jewelers Screw Drivers. and Precision Lubricant.

Took as many panels as I could off the back side of the computer. Removed the fan. Cleaned the fan up with the spray, lubricated it and let it sit.

Cleaned out the inside of the computer best I could with the spray. It was very clean on the inside. The fan had a small amount of build up on it. Made sure there was no lubricant dripping from the fan.

Put it all back together and it sounds like new again.

I did get the part number off it while I had it in my hand just in case.....

Thanks for the suggestions...
