I want to make a cutting board from Corian. I have the scrap piece but would like to round off the edges and put a handle/oval hole in the edge. What works the best for doing these tasks? Any special tools required? Think a Dremel tool would work? Thanks

When we had our countertops done, they left us a cutting board from where they cut out the sink opening. I put some rubber feet on it to lift it up off the counter. It is only a 12x12 size. When they cut the top out for our slide in stove, they used a router. I would guess that any wood bit in it would work. Dremel might work as well, or even a roto-zip.

router would be my tool of choice. if it were me i would make a jig out of wood then use a guided cutting bit then a roundover bit and wa la.

90 degree corners are a no no with corian. it'll crack from the corner. That's one reason they use routers. All inside corners will be rounded with it. Any kind of grinding wheel will cut into it. Dremel, jigsaw, etc.

Another thing- My folks just had Corian countertops put in at their place and were told repeatedly to keep anything hot off of the counters. Apparently, Corian is extremely resistant to cuts, chips, bacteria, etc, but doesn't do well at all with heat.

Just something to keep in mind should you find yourself with a hot pot of boiling bratwurst in one hand and an unopened Guinness in the other- set the beer down and grab a hot pad, not the brats down while you go for a bottle opener, no matter how tempting that may be. :)

Use a router with a round over bit usually use 3/4" with a straight edge attached to the router for outside.

Drill out your handle with a saw bit blade goes on a drill press or can be used on a 1/2" drill.

Use 1/2 inch round over bit for the inside, best to make yourself a jig or guide as MP Tony said.

Yep, you can use any carbide tipped router bits. The roundover and the Ogee bits woold look good on a corian cutting board. I would also go with some small stick-on rubber feet as previously suggested.
