Couple of AC related questions

Hi all,



Been the driver of a 2007 ST for almost a month now - so far so good. I have noticed that I have to leave the AC on max and highest fan setting the majority of the time in order to keep things cool. The fan sounds like it's working hard, but the results coming out of the vents seem to be a bit lacking - more so if i turn the rear vents on.



Haven't found anybody else that has complained, so maybe this is just the way it is?



Also, I'd love to install a small fan for the rear vents - have a similar setup in my Mazda5 van. That way when I do need to send some AC to the rear seats I can give it a little more thrust. Anybody done anything like this?

Uh...sounds like you need to get the AC checked as my AC is extremely cold and I never have to have it on Max...I;d have ice cycles. I think your coolant needs refilled. That would be expected for a 7 year old vehicle.

Aloha Misawa, some folks on this site will disagree but you can go to Walmart or another parts store and buy a can of freon with a filler hose and put some in your self. I have done this many times over the last 20 years and have had no problems. If your system was completely empty, then you should go to a repair station and have it evacuated. But if it is blowing some cold then there is some freon left and no chance of moisture in there.

Thanks for the responses fellas! I'll have my mechanic give the AC system a once over - at this point I might could have the dealer still foot the bill for it. It's at least worth a try.



TRACket Paul - no separate fan in my 2007. If it was done in previous generations, though, I have hope for adding one in on mine.

Ford's A/Cs don't cool well at idle here in the humid Ozarks. I have had several Ford pickups/ Mazdas B-4000s, and 3 Sport Tracs and they all have cooled very poorly at idle. It helps to speed the engine to 2000 RPM or so. Once underway, they cool just fine.
