Just found this website. Will show all reported crimes in your area on a Google map.

I didn't know that just a few days ago there was a 2 AM assault in my community just a few days ago, for example. (My community is sadly used for quasi-legal overflow parking by the nearby uber-popular neighborhood bar, and it was on Ladies' night...)

Also, this will show you the locations, ages, names, and pictures of all registered sex offenders. There are TONS of them all in the DC/Annapolis/Baltimore area. Especially in the near-baltimore ghetto areas and the White Trash Pennisulas of my county. Stereotypes are true....but there are also many within easy walks of my house.

Arundel Mills Mall, Maryland's most popular tourist attraction, and a major tourist draw in general (home to the most visited theatre in North America) has many within sight.

(Of course, to drum up fear the cops won't tell you the actual CRIME the sex offender did, they want us to believe that they are all pedophiles or some such. There's no drama if you know....but these pictures look like dudes straight off of To Catch a Predator.)

Just posting as this just shattered my faith in the world a lot.

Eddie. The stats take time to clear the system. They will not be listed until they are cleared. In many cases this will not happen until the case is solved and the suspects are charged with and receive their punishment.

Wow, interesting site.

Just looked at a 15 mile radius of our house. One clump of thefts in a town and area about 10 miles away, largely populated by minorities (stats aren't racist).

Other than that, there are sex offenders all over the place...tons of them.

Also, looking at the pictures, I have to say, most all sex offenders have a common trait...their EYES are closely spaced (close together). I am serious. Maybe a gene thing at play there, or maybe my mental model of a sex offender is that they have or should have a beady-eyed rodent look to them.

From my usage of the site, the Google map will start off showing your approximate location, but until you enter an address and hit "Generate Neighborhood", it won't show any crimes for some reason. Don't know if that matters to you, or if you just live in a far better area than I do.

The site actually started to lag when I tried to view Baltimore, but with at least 1 deadly shooting a week, I can see it being overloaded.

Clicking on more of these Sex Offender icons, while a great deal of them are fairly old and look the part (Chris Hansen-induced stereotyping??), there are a fair number of guys in their 20s who are on this registry. Clicking the link to the Maryland State Government Registry gives a bit more info, but only the "level" of their crime, and if assault was included.

I found a few female sex offenders in my neighborhood, and one of them reminds me of the creepy fugly woman from the Dirty Harry movie Sudden Impact. (Who should be on this sort of registry anyhow).

I was looking at that, too. It seems like my town has a registered sex offender on almost every stinking corner! Makes me want to move out to the boonies!
