My wife and I went out yesterday and as we were pulling away I noticed my driver's side door lock didn't lock as it usually does. All the other doors locked and unlocked with no issues. I kept trying the lock/unlock button inside and all the doors locked/unlocked with no problems. The drivers side lock seemed like it wanted to lock but just couldn't move far enough. It was the same thing when I tried to unlock it. The door will lock and unlock with the key but not with the remote or keypad on the door. Is this a common problem? I've already had both rear doors not be able to open from the inside and now this. Should I take the door panel off to see if it is getting stuck on something? Is there something specific I should look for when I take the door panel off? Thanks in advance for your help.

Congrats to A-Rod on 500!!! Here we come Boston!! Better be looking behind you!!

Sounds like the rivets that hold on the lock actuator may have come loose or the actuator is bad...

The key will still work fine, That is a mechanical connection, not electrical..

My "01 had the same problem. I followed the posts about removing the door panel, and reached in to hold the lock solenoid in place against the rivet hole. The lock operated up and down just fine. Holding the solenoid from the back, I drilled holes about 3/8" higher and lower than the rivet hole and put in pan head sheet metal screws. This worked great. They don't contact any metal when the door is closed and I painted them black to match my paint. The original rivet (although it has a screw thread)is through a piece of plastic and a u-shaped sheet metal braket is between the plastic and the solenoid. When you drill through the door, you will first penetrate the plastic and then the sheet metal. Don't go too far or you'll drill through the solenoid.

Jason,

The rivet falling out is a fairly common problem. I don't know if anyone ever did a project for it, but there should be several threads on this.

I had this happen to me last summer. This may sound ghetto but I just used a nut and bolt to replace the rivet. A year later and it is still as good as new.
