Dallas Meet - Are You Still Going

Not really a Gen Info topic but definately not off-topic. So anyhow, who, from outside of TX, is still considering the meet or has decided to cancel attending due to current and future gas prices. Not to mention, the damage caused by Katrina. I know coming from Miami, I'm wondering how much of a detour I would have to take from the currently planned route.



Thus far I'm still planning on attending, but the near future of gas prices may dictate otherwise. Estimating, $3 a gallon and the shortest route to TX, I'm expecting a $500 budget for fuel, round trip. Not real thrilled but can cope with this twist. The budget is based on 18 mpg highway, but I have done much better on long trips, but also considering the potential detours, I won't be so optimistic.



Starting to kinda wish the meet had taken place in L'ville.

Excellent point on the fuel consumption. I was not really going to be able to make before due to how far away it is from me. But for those that intend on going the fuel is something some will have to consider. I don't think like that. It is what it is and I drive on.



But like I said, it is a valid concern...

Spaceman, I do know that sections of I-10 around the storm-affected areas are out, so you won't be able to go that way. You'll have to jog north to avoid that area.

I live in Texas, only about 100 miles south of the DFW area and I'm not sure I will make it. If I'm still out of work then, I will have to see how my finances are at the end of Septemeber.



If I find a job, I'm not sure I would be able to get off on Thursday or Friday, so at best I may only be able to attend on Saturday.

I am going. I first planned for $2.50/gal when it was about $2.30/gal, now I'm planning for $3.00/gal. I am looking at lower cost rooms enroute.

I was planning on going, but I'm not too sure now. Like Spaceman, I'm looking at $500 for fuel round trip if gas prices stay where they are now.

Todd, I'm actually concerned that this is the onset. Radio rumors are stating the $4 is possible for the weekend. I normally don't worry much about gas or budget for vacation, but this is/will be a huge exception.

We've been looking for a house and just signed the contract on one TODAY! Of course that means we might have to be doing house things, but we're not supposed to close on the house until the 3rd of October, so maybe we'll be ok.



This is our first owned house in 5 years.

I'm still planning on going, but was not going to drive because of time constraints (coming from CA - 4 days of travel, round trip).



I have continued to use my Trac as I always have.

I can't go as I will be arrving back from Denver the day before , or two days before, the meet takes place and I have to go back to HELL...oh-uhm I mean work for the 28th...

My daughter's friend lives in Dallas, his mom owns a Hummer of all things! half tank to fill up 65.00 3.60 a gal. They do own other vehicles.



on a side note, the Hummer is being used to transport his family. The boy and his family sadly have not heard a word from or about his Aunt that lives in N.O. The family is driving to Houston (actually are there now) to the Astrodome and see if they can locate her there. He said Traffic is hellacious right now. Lots of LA plates.

I know a few people will not be happy with my decision, but I am saving for another house and I have to keep the funds under control. Email me when you will be in New England.
