Dash Light out

Just recently one of the lights in my gauge panel went out, the one between the tach and the speedo. The interesting thing is I just realized it's actually easier to see the numbers with the dash lights off instead of on in certain levels of outside darkness. It has to get almost dark before the dash lights actually make it better! Is there any way to make it easier to see the numbers on the speedo and the tach when the dash lights are on in twilight conditions?

Funny, the same exact light went out after doing something I had to unplug the battery for

Can you use the dimmer and turn the light down or up ??

Yep. Annoying to do it that way, though, since the clock in the radio goes way down, too, and I use it to see just how late I'm gonna be this morning!
