Tom - I see where you're going with the key thing, but no one can dismiss the fact that if the door is LOCKED and a key is stowed in the glove compartment, there is no window of "opportunity". Yes, it's like a bonus to a thief, but the thief is still a thief. And the crime is still a crime. Even if the door is unlocked, that person has no right to enter the vehicle and even search for a key.

Jenn,

As with anything else. If you are a theif , you really could care less about someones rights.

Tom

I suppose if you give your key out to be duplicated the person that duplicated it would have the upper hand if they were crooked.

1 thing that bothered me when i bought my ST was that there was a Permanent Factory Keycode that couldnt be changed for the door locks. And since the Alarm is totally useless, if a person sells their ST and either knows where it is or sees it in a parking lot later on they have full access to it, not too mention keeping an extra key for themselves. They dont even have to steal the truck but have access to anything in the truck.

Glass breaks pretty easy with a rock. Worring about keys and someone duplicating a key is just paranoia.

Tom

A high end security system will help relieve most paranoia for me.

When my Ranger got broken into 4 years ago, they took a screw driver and popped out the key lock and just turned it to open the door. After that i so badly wanted to hard wire the locks to the battery so the next person that puts a screw driver where it doesnt belong would think twice after he got out of surgery. But in Canada our laws are so F'd up that i would be charged if it happened. Even if i put a sign beside the door lock that said "Do not put screw driver in here"

Last i heard, in the US you are allowed to protect your vehicle to any extent. Grand Theft Auto in Canada has a different meaning that in the US. The courts refer to it as a video game played by kids.
