Spy shots of the '06 Dodge Challenger concept are at the link below. It looks pretty sharp. It's supposed to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. I'm sure it'll be received with an overwhelmingly positve response, and a production model will soon follow. With a 370 cubic inch (6.1 liter) engine, it's going to give the Mustang GT a run for it's money I'm sure. GM is certainly being left in the proverbial dust with no 2+2 V8, rear drive sports/pony car on the market or on the horizon.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice, even if it is a Dodge. At least they didn't put a Ram truck grille on it.

The old cars had the magic they are looking for. I always liked the Challengers, and wouldn't mind having one now, but rust and teenage drivers have made them rare.

Actually, I thought it was a joke, and someone was trying to show the picture of an old Challenger with modifications, and say that it was a new car. Then I looked a little closer and read the text. I think they hit their target.

TrainTrac, did you forget about the GTO? ;)

It will eat the mustang GT for breakfast...I know from experience! I am glad to see Dodge make a "decent" musclecar though. The charger just didn't cut it as far as I'm concerned.

I think that price and syling take the GTO out of musclecar territory and put it in performance sedan territory.

Not saying it isn't fast, I saw on smoke a C5 Vette on I285 one night.

Now, can Dodge fit a V-10 in that thing?????

baron,

Dale's right, the Goat and the Mustang are in different classes. That's why the most recent Motor Trend and Car and Driver conducted American car tests between the GTO and Charger and didn't include the Mustang. The Goat is a considered a mid-size performance coupe (not sedan, because that's a four-dooor), and the Mustang and Challenger are considered 2+2 sports cars. The original GTO was also always considered a mid-size, having been based on the Tempest. It's contemporaries back in the day were the Malibu, Olds Cutlass/442, Buick Skylark, and Ford Torino. The contemporaries of today's GTO would be the Charger/300 and Monte Carlo.

I really like that Challenger. The lines on it make it look fast even when sitting still! I also like that color that Dodge uses on thier cars. Reminds me of the Mandarin Gold ST color....

Kinda looks like the Charger Concept from a few years ago. That managed to mutate into a four door... hopefully they keep this as a 2 door if it ever makes it to production. I'm not a huge fan of Chrysler/Dodge, but I'd be swayed to the dark side for one of those. Maybe it is the nostalgia as my first car was a 72 charger. The thing handled like the Titanic but it passed everything on the street except the gas station.

BTW... The windows on the 72 are much narrower than the 68/69 Charger. After attempting to jump into the window like the Duke boys... I'm surprised I was able to father children.

Well, it has the look of a Challenger (which may not be a good thing, this whole retro trend will reach an end soon), hopefully it'll have the performance of the old ones. But I'd take a new-age 'Cuda. It always was my favorite E-body.

SEMA the whole retro thing was in demand. Custom Hot Rod builders are building 400-500K cars, Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, Barricudas, etc. Dodge/Chrysler are being smart as well as Ford. They don't want to build cars that look like Toyota or Hondas as they want to build cars that look American with retro to the muscle car days. Why because Toyota, Nissan and Honda can't!

Thanks,

SST

I really think American car makers need to get back to basics! Love that Challenger! Wow!!

YES!!! The Chevelle SS! I'd like to see them bring that back! :)

This looks very Similiar to the Camero that Chip Foose designed for the Good Guys and Unique Performance to sell...

The drawing is almost the same and the Color and strip are the same!

I like the Camero Chip did better...

Saw it on Rides on TLC on Tuesday night!

Cheers

Whit

wow, I actuall touched myself there. 6 speed tranny with a pistol grip shifter...and a hemi. God make it stop.

I was a MOPAR freak in my muscle car days. Never fell out of love with the cars, still drool every time I see a sweet Challenger/Cuda/Barracuda/Dart GTS/etc/etc/etc.
