My brother has a 2000 Explorer. Until yesterday he has had no problems with it. Until his door ajar light stays on. not only does the light stay on it causes the dome lights to stay on as well. I called the local dealership and they said spray the door lock system with WD-40 as there ar sensors in there it this would clean them off. Well I did that and the problem still occurs. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what might casue this problem or a possible way to fix it. I was able to get the dome lights to shut off by turning the dimmer switch to off but it is a real pain.

Thanks in advance for any and all help

Check the door switches. I am willing to bet that is where the problem is.

I know on my Escort, the switch is a simple design. When open, the switch grounds out on the door frame, when the door is closed, the switch is open. Sometimes it gets gumed up and doesn't wor right. Pulling the switches off one at a time and check its operation.

It maybe the back hatch door or the back window switch. It was on my wifes escape. I slamed it a few times. Never did it again...

The door switch is the most common issue. It gets stuck in the open position and as far as the system is concerned, the door is open.

Spray some lube in the lock side of the door lock...

If spraying it dose not work find the plundger switch drill a small hole and find a small screw and screw it in all the way if that dosen't work back the screw head out until it kicks the light off. This is a last ditch effort did this to the Caravan i had and it worked fine for many years.
