Guys/Gals,

I have a 2002 Sport Trac that got a lot of scratches on the 2 front handles. I know that there's a TSB for it, so one of my friends that work for the dealer has given me the handles. Sad part is, he went away for a long vacation so I'm stuck with it. My question is,is there anybody in here that has change this before? I know that there are projects to cover it up, but not the actual stripping of the door panels & replacing the door handles. Any pictorial step by step instructions is highly appreciated.

thanks,

Dan :)

Removing the actual door handle from the panel once you have the panel off the door is pretty easy. Follow the project Cruzrtwdgt posted above to get the door panel off. There are only three phillips screws holding the handle on and one plastic tab that just pops off. I removed my handles from the panel when I wrapped them in carbon fiber vinyl.

If you have a small ratchet that will take a phillips head, it will make the job much easier for you.

Good luck.

Ron,

You can purchase carbon fiber pattern vinyl or any other color or pattern vinyl from several places. I've seen it sold at Autozone, Pep Boys, and Advanced Auto. I purchased my sheet off of ebay. A site sponsor here, SeattleSportTrac sells vinyl decals and can probably give you a pretty good deal on vinyl sheet in several patterns and colors. His website: http://www.webxtremes.com

This turned out to be a pretty cheap and quick way to get rid of the unsightly scratches, and has been holding up fairly well. I also like the approach some other memebers took where they wrapped their handles in leather.
